Paul Jewell believes Bradford City will put things right, despite a disappointing start to the season that has seen them take only one point from their first four matches.

City went down to their third defeat of the season 2-1 at Crewe last night, though they dominated the second half, and their problems were compounded when defender Ashley Westwood suffered a recurrence of his ankle trouble.

Westwood, signed from Crewe during the summer for £150,000, was taken off the field on a stretcher with a badly-swollen right ankle after a late challenge from lively striker Rodney Jack during the second half.

Westwood's injury and City's defeat made it an unhappy re-turn to Gresty Road for mid-field player Gareth Whalley - a £600,000 signing this summer - and Westwood.

Jewell said: "If we were not playing well I would be wor-ried, but I honestly feel it will come right for us.

"I am disappointed we have only got one point, particularly after we had chances at Crewe and in our other away match at Watford.

"We need to put a few results together. I am a realist so I know that, but there is no panic in the camp because we know we have some good players and we feel we are going the right way.

"Obviously we are looking for our first league win, and I thought we would get it at Crewe, but it was not to be.

"In the first 20 minutes we could not get to grips with their movement. It is easy to say it was a case of bad defending, but they had some great movement and went 2-0 up.

"After that we got the ball down and passed it very well, and we dominated the second half and created numerous chances.

"When we went two down I feared the worst, but we came back well and showed we are a better team than we were last season.

"We got back to 2-1 before half-time, and from then on I fancied us.

"Lee Mills missed two unbe-lievable chances, and the ball was bouncing around in the box, but it would not go into the net.

"We have got to learn, though, that we cannot give teams two goals start.

"When we went two goals down I was thinking back to last season when we lost 5-0 at Crewe, but we picked ourselves up this time to get back into the game.

"Crewe played very well in the first 20 minutes, but when we got to grips with that the only thing that was missing was the finishing touch."

The match proved difficult for Whalley and Westwood on their return to Crewe, and Jewell said: "Both looked nervous early on, but in the second half Gareth Whalley did very well and Ashley Westwood joined in before his injury."
