Founder members of a Keighley amateur rugby league team are being sought for a 50th-anniversary reunion.

The Keighley Athletic side was formed in the 1948-49 season, and shortly after its launch was renamed Albion.

Now the club - which recently gained entry to the National Conference League - is planning a reunion at Victoria Hall, Keighley, next Saturday, September 5. It is keen to hear from any founder members - on the playing side or from the committee - interested in attending. Contact Paul Moore on 667614 for further information.

Coinciding with the club's anniversary, a book is being published tracing its history. The booklet - Seasons to Remember - has been written by former player Don Kirkley and his brother David. They spent two years researching and writing the publication, which includes statistical information and a wide selection of pictures.

Don, a retired postal manager, of Lynwood Court, Keighley, told us: "We have managed to unearth a lot about the club's history, including material from the Keighley News archives. There is a host of figures which will provide a good reference facility.

"It was hard work but interesting, and we are hoping to write more books in the future."

Don played for Keighley Albion from 1957-65, and his father Allan was among the original members. "There is a lot of history attached to the club and plenty of local interest, so we hope people will enjoy reading the book," Don adds.

An initial run of 500 is being printed. Copies will be on sale soon from various outlets priced £6.95, with all proceeds to club funds. Publisher is Manchester-based Empire Publications.

Further details of how you can obtain your copy will appear in the Keighley News when the book becomes available.
