Bradford City striker Robert Steiner could be on his way to Dundee United in a £200,000 move.

The Swede is on trial with the Tannadice outfit until next week and may even figure in the United squad to face Glasgow Rangers tomorrow.

Steiner appears to be surplus to requirements at Valley Parade with eight or nine strikers regularly vying for a place in the first team.

The Scottish Premier League outfit have scored just one goal in four games this season and with unsettled striker Robbie Winters the subject of an £800,000 bid by Barnsley recently, manager Paul Sturrock may believe Steiner is the answer.

City boss Paul Jewell said: "Rob went up on Wednesday and they are having a look at him."

If Steiner does not figure in the squad for the clash with Rangers, United intend organising a behind closed doors friendly to have a close look at the Swede.

Just two weeks ago, the 25-year-old turned down a move to Norwegian side Stabaek after failing to agree personal terms.

Meanwhile, City's £2.3 million strikeforce are the main doubts for tomorrow's Yorkshire derby with Sheffield United at Valley Parade.

Lee Mills picked up an ankle injury while Isaiah Rankin tweaked a hamstring and Jewell has responded by bringing in Gordon Watson, who was in lively form for the reserves in their 3-0 win at York.

The City boss said: "Of the two, I am probably more confident of Mills being fit but we will just have to wait and see how they both are.

"I was impressed with everyone who played for the reserves this week and Gordon deserves to be part of the squad.

"Unfortunately Lee Todd came off injured against York with a recurrence of his groin injury and he is seeing a specialist to see how bad the damage is. It is a blow because I thought he was having a good game."

Jewell says his side are looking forward to tomorrow's game and intend banishing the memory of Tuesday's 3-0 defeat at Ipswich.

"We had a very good training session yesterday which included a meeting of all the players. It was a very good session where we identified what we failed to do at Ipswich."

"Lawrence Davies has joined Hartlepool United on loan with a view to a permanent deal and he could make his debut against Exeter City tomorrow. The 21-year-old joined City 12 months ago and played one game.
