Bradford City say they are still "in the dark" over striker Rob Steiner's possible £200,000 switch to Dundee United.

The Swede has been on loan with the Scottish club for the past week with United boss Paul Sturrock hoping he can end his side's miserable run of just one goal in their opening five league games.

Steiner played in a behind closed doors friendly against Falkirk which was arranged so Sturrock could have a close look at the player.

Sources in Scotland say Steiner enjoyed an impressive first half performance against Falkirk before tiring although it is not clear what United's next move will be.

The striker, who was City's joint top scorer last season, appears to be surplus to Paul Jewell's plans with the Bantams having eight strikers vying for a place in the first team.

Jewell said: "We have heard nothing at all and are completely in the dark at the moment. The ball is in Dundee United's court at the moment.

"We understand Rob played in a practice game at 12 noon on Tuesday but Dundee United have not been in touch.

"We have eight strikers and Rob is not in the plans at the moment. It would be beneficial if there was a parting of the ways."

Meanwhile, City have sold half their 1,109 ticket allocation for the clash with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. Season ticket holders have until 5pm today to take advantage of priority booking after which they will be on general sale. Voucher 'C' must be produced at the ticket office.

Tickets cost £17 (concession £15) for the Saturday, October 3 match which kicks off at 3pm. City chairman Geoffrey Richmond said: "After today, tickets will be on a strict first come, first served basis."
