Peter Beagrie is looking for re-vitalised Bradford City to exploit Halifax Town's defensive frailties and book a place in the third round of the Worthington Cup tonight.

City go into the match full of confidence following their first away win of the season at West Brom on Sunday.

Now, the skilful winger whose spectacular 25 yard shot gave them a 2-1 lead at the Shay last week to take into the second round, second leg is hoping the team can finish the job by seizing the initiative early in the match.

He said: "I was impressed with Halifax at the Shay last week, but we didn't impose ourselves on them very much at all.

"They showed a lot of movement up front and they are a strong physical side, but defensive frailties are there for all to see so hopefully we can exploit them, make a good start and go on from there.

"We know they are going to compete for the full 90 minutes and we will treat them with respect, but they are not an unknown quantity any more and hopefully we can exploit their weaknesses."

Manager Paul Jewell, delighted with the West Brom result and performance, is still wary of over confidence as City tackle Halifax again.

The Shaymen will also be lifted by an away win - 2-1 at Hull City on Saturday - and Jewell said: "After winning promotion from the Conference last season and then making such a good start in the League, Halifax must be the form team in the whole league.

"It was great to score goals, but also good to keep a clean sheet. I have not been happy with our defensive work, but we have worked very hard on it in training and for it to come right on the day was very pleasing."

Defender John Dreyer was back in training yesterday after missing Sunday's victory through illness and has been included in tonight's squad, but striker Isaiah Rankin who limped off at West Brom with an ankle injury will not be fit. Whether that means that Gordon Watson will start a match for the first time since his 18 month absence through injury Jewell would not say, but the manager was full of praise for his performance at West Brom when he replaced the injured Rankin.

Striker Robert Steiner is back at Valley Parade after his trial with Dundee United. City are still waiting to here whether they want to sign him or not.
