Eight more Bradford City fans have complained to the club they were wrongly arrested before last month's cup match against Leeds United.

And two supporters who were locked in cells and missed the game have lodged a formal complaint with West Yorkshire Police.

An internal investigation has been opened by the force into events on October 28, when 44 City fans were arrested near Leeds railway station before the derby Worthington Cup match.

They were all released without charge at 2am the following day.

Geoff Parkinson, of West Bowling, who lodged a complaint with friend Ronnie Darlington, of Idle, said he hoped to get an apology and be reimbursed for his wasted ticket.

He said: "Our night was ruined and I think it's only right we get an apology. So far we've just been told the police were within their rights to arrest us to avoid a breach of the peace."

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman confirmed a complaint had been received which would be investigated.

The eight other fans who were arrested have come forward following an appeal by Bradford City chairman Geoffrey Richmond. They include the mother of a 17-year-old boy who was among those detained.

The fans were held by police under a railway bridge in Swinegate, Leeds, after they fled from opposing fans leaving a pub.

They claim officers told the group they would be taken to Leeds United's Elland Road ground in vans but when the vans arrived they were arrested, photographed and taken to Millgarth Police Station.

Bradford City safety officer Roger Holmes said he had recommended supporters seek legal advice and lodge a complaint with police - though the club was taking no formal action.
