A woman who has been cleared of abusing a toddler today called on the authorities to re-open their investigation to find the true culprit.

Speaking through her solicitor, Asia Parvaz, 31, from Broughton Grove, Skipton, said she now looked forward to rebuilding her life after the eight-month ordeal.

She said the police should re-open enquiries into how the 11-month-old boy's skull came to be fractured.

But a police spokesman said today that there were no plans to reopen the case.

A jury at Bradford Crown Court took just four hours to clear Mrs Parvaz of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and unlawful wounding.

Her solicitor, Abdul Iftikhar, said: "Asia Parvaz had vehemently denied this very serious allegation from the outset of the police investigation.

"She is relieved that the eight-month ordeal is finally over. More importantly, justice has prevailed.

"She is nevertheless concerned, as the very serious non-accidental injuries to the then 11-month-old child are still unexplained. She believes the appropriate agencies have failed her, because if they had rigorously investigated these allegations, then no doubt somebody else would have been on trial, not her.

"She has instructed us in the light of the outcome of her trial, to liaise with the authorities, and invite them to re-open the investigation and find the real perpetrator.

"She will now concentrate on rebuilding her life with her children. We are very happy with the verdict, but she is fragile."

Shamshad Hussain, of the Keighley Domestic Violence Forum which has helped Asia Parvaz, said she had been overjoyed by the verdict and hoped it vindicated her position.
