A Bradford firm is becoming a global player by making stages and stands for prestigious events around the world.

TGA Chapmans, based in Wyke Mills, Huddersfield Road, Wyke, has seen its turnover grow by 20 per cent in the last five years thanks to a number of prestigious contracts.

The firm, which started in 1900 as Chapmans Displays, is now a multi-million pound business which is looking to create extra jobs on top of the 75 people it currently employs.

The latest prestigious contract was designing and building a stage which was seen by millions of TV viewers this week.

Nine employees took three weeks to design and build a stage which was used by UN Secretary General Kofi Annan at the Palais de Chaillot in Paris on Tuesday. The event was the 50th anniversary of the UN Universal Declara-tion of Human Rights.

The firm was commissioned by Amnesty International which presented ten million pledges of support for human rights to the UN.

The stage is one of a number of major contracts won with firms from all over the world. The next big one is for five stands at the Home Textile Exhibition in Frankfurt next January with deals from firms in India, Pakistan and the USA.

The firm has also won deals for exhibitions in Amsterdam and Chicago along with contracts for the Halifax bank in the UK.
