Residents in Wilsden say they are being driven to desperation by thieves and vandals.

People living in Main Street say they have been subjected to months of vandalism and thefts from their cars but that nothing is being done to help them.

Kim McCulloch is one of ten residents whose cars have been targeted by the thieves while parked in Bradford Council's Royd House car park, Main Street, Wilsden.

Her car was stolen twice in one week during November and has been vandalised on six occasions - most recently on Saturday.

She said: "I claimed on the insurance the first time but the I didn't the second time because it's getting to the point where no one will insure me. The insurance company actually asked if someone had a vendetta against me and it's starting to feel like there is.."

One resident, who did not want to be named, said: "We are extremely angry. The police say that they can't do anything and they don't seem to bother unless you kick up a real fuss.

"Thousands of pounds worth of damage has been caused and our insurance premiums are going through the roof.

"We are taking all the precautions we can but it doesn't make any difference. If they can't get into the cars they just mindlessly vandalise them."

The residents say they have contacted police about the possibility of an increased presence or having video cameras in the area but their appeals have met with little response.

A police spokesman said: "There has been a distinct rise in this type of vehicle crime in this immediate vicinity of the car park over the last few months.

"We are aware of this problem and we are pursuing active lines of enquiry."
