Boxing: Bradford's Ben Thewliss triumphed in the Yorkshire and Humberside ABA Championships to take the 36kgs title in Mexborough.
Thewliss, who trains at the Karmand Centre in Barkerend Road, defeated Bridlington's Kyle Simpson to take the title on a majority points decision.
The Bradford 13-year-old took the bout in a close contest after a blistering start which saw him score heavily with some good body punches. Simpson countered well but despite some good ring craft, Thewliss took the day 60-58, 59-56, 58-59.
Sedbergh Boys Club boxer David Ireland reached the final of the Senior 42kgs section, but his decider with Dewsbury's Eugene Heagoney came to an end in the first round when Ireland stopped the fight.
Two other Bradford boxers reached their respective finals, which were held over until tomorrow night.
Karmand's Daniel Baxter won Dewsbury's Michael Donahoe in the Class A 42kgs division after Donahoe was disqualified for persistent holding.
And Sirfraz Younis of Bradford Police Boys lined up a 67 kgs title shot when got the decision in a close contest against Sheffield's Martin Quinn.
