Amateur Rugby League: West Bowling were the only Bradford side to make it through to the third round of the BNFL National Cup.

But the draw has again been unkind handing them another away draw against Conference side East Leeds

Bowling did well to overcome Yorkshire Leaguers Kippax.

The sides could not be separated in a first half which finished 10-10 thanks to tries from loose forward John Helliwell and prop forward Mick Gorman one of which was converted by scrum half Dean Garside.

The second half was all Bowling as their strong tackling took its toll on the Leeds side. A Garside penalty was soon followed by a rare drop goal from Gorman.

Centres Andy Leek and Man of the Match Martin Tordoff posted excellent tries before powerful wingman Steve Gregory finished the match off by crossing in the corner to make the final score 25-10 in Bowling's favour.

Queensbury gave a much improved performance but still went down 28-6 at home to Ellenborough Rangers.

The Cumbrian outfit was given first advantage of the slope and it was soon apparent that they were the best side seen at Hill Top this season.

Bury were only six points adrift after 30 minutes but the Rangers turned on the style to stretch the lead to 22-0 at the break.

Bury's second half tenacity had the visitors reeling, but they could only muster a late try from wingman Darren Brown converted by Steven Gallagher.

Queensbury's half back pairing of Carl Smith and Gareth McKinley were outstanding.

Clayton went out to Conference side Oulton Raiders 32-14 at the Delph, but the scoreline does not reflect a close tussle.

International centre Paul Cornforth was back to his best with two electrifying first half tries right out of the top drawer to leave the score 12-8 at the break.

The Raiders eased out to 18-8 before forward Chris Swales crossed for the Villagers with Adam Mitchell converting.

It was obvious that the next score would settle matters but it was the Leeds side who went on to take the tie.

Undercliffe could not get on the score board and crashed to a 22-0 defeat at Westgate Redoubt.

In the Pennine Division Two, Wyke were unlucky to lose 20-17 at home to St Josephs. They were very good value for their half time 16-10 lead and had the opportunity to put the match beyond the Huddersfield visitors with some enterprising rugby.

The turning point came early in the second half when, following a flare-up, Wyke fullback Darren Barraclough and two St Josephs players were sent off.

Wyke still could have secured the points with wingman Paul Medcalfe having a try disallowed in the final minute.

Their points came from a try to Craig Scott plus a try and a drop goal to Chris Scott. Medcalfe kicked four goals.

The Division Four derby match went to Victoria Rangers 9-6.

The Vics can thank their evergreen prop forward Paul Hutchinson for helping to provide the platform for the success with a non-stop tackling display.

Their scorers were wingmen Darren Jacobs and Darren Thompson - his first try in three years - plus a drop goal from Jason Pounder.

Queensbury A's unbeaten bandwagon is still rolling on following their 48-12 win over West Bowling B at Emsleys Rec.

Bury had Shaun Fallon to the fore with three tries and six goals.

They looked to have made another find in the shape of local milkman Richard Ingham who, playing his first game since signing from local soccer, scored a hat-trick.

He was joined on the score sheet by centre Neil Hobson and forwards Jason Pell and Ben Mason. Bowling scored tries through Peter Ryan and Jason Woolham who also kicked a goal.
