Motor Sport: Dougie Lampkin suffered his first defeat of this year's world arena trials championships in Barcelona - but he went down fighting.

Marc Colomer come out on top as home advantage paid off for the former world champion.

Lampkin, suffering from a cold, made a good start, but things turned sour in the all-important final when the rear suspension shock absorber on his factory Beta softened in the heat.

"No excuses though, I had a bad final with two silly failures and Marc rode well", said Lampkin.

Lampkin still has a 13 point advantage over Colomer with two rounds to go.

Results: 1 Marc Colomer (Spain) Montesa, 7; 2 Dougie Lampkin (Silsden) Beta, 16; 3 Amos Bilbao (Spain) Montesa, 28; 4 Steve Colley (Isle of Man) GasGas, 31; 5 Marcel Justribo (Spain) Montesa, 32; 6 Graham Jarvis (Harrogate) Scorpa, 33.

World points: 1 Lampkin 57; 2 Colomer 44; 3 Colley 38; 4 Jarvis and Bilbao 34; 5 Davide Cobos (Spain) Bultaco, 32; 6 Takahisa Fujinami (Japan) Honda, 17.

Beta's Ben Hemingway goes for his second national premier on Sunday at the Colonial Trial at the head of Rosedale near Pickering where Eboracum Motor Club stage the old established event over a one lap, 40-section, 26-mile course.

Dark horse will be Phil Alderson on the White Bros Bultaco in his first national since leaving Yamaha.

Eboracum's fine mix of stream and mud sections at Hartoft Moor, Rock House Farm, Haygate and Bottoms could be right up the Alderson street.

Those sections can be driven to but Moorland, Coates Hill, Low Thorgill, Cragg Side and Hobb House at the end of the lap are walking only for spectators.

Visitors are urged to be sensible in their parking as any rash behaviour may jeopardise a fine national. Start time is 9am

Former Yorkshire motocross champion Terry Silvester will present the trophies at the Hull Motor Club's Winter Masters' series finale at Finningley on Sunday, where the Humberside club stage the final round of three events on the high speed sand quarry track.

It was at Finningley that Harry Lampkin crashed last month and broke his arm. Harry, rapidly making a name in motocross after only six months, is not fit to resume his battle so one of the favourites for a trophy will be former Yorkshire champion Mark Silvester, son of Terry.

Steve Saunders won Sunday's Colmore Cup trial at Moreton in the Marsh ahead of Bultaco rider Sam Connor. The trial was the second round of the Auto Cycle Union national 'Clubman' championship and the class winner was Colin Crease.

Yorkshire Classics trial at Bingley attracted a large entry of 65 starters on old British bikes.

Top rider was Lothersdale's Bob Anderson riding an Ariel machine ahead of former TT ace Mick Grant, with Keighley's Richard Baldwin, aboard a Norton machine, in third spot in the spring frame class.

John Feather headed a quartet of Keighley riders in the non-sprung class. Denholme pensioner Norman Pickles won the two stroke class on his James machine while Mick Driffield was just about beaten by daughter Jill, in the vintage two stroke category where overall honours went to Birstall lubricant supplier Richard Thorpe.
