A murder trial took a dramatic twist today when the Crown accepted a plea of manslaughter on grounds of provocation and wounding with intent.
Pub disc jockey Phillip Edwards, 29, of Brantwood Crescent, Stoney Ridge, Bradford, had pleaded not guilty at Bradford Crown Court to the murder of 50-year-old Godfrey Swaby.
Mr Swaby, of Seldon Street, Bradford, had been involved in an argument at the West End Bar, Lumb Lane, in February 1998.
He was stabbed with a knife but managed to leave the bar.
Outside the bar, he was stabbed twice more - once through the heart - but he managed to stagger to a nearby car park in Jinnah Court, where he collapsed.
His body was found there later that morning by a visitor to the area.
Edwards, who left the area for London after the incident, came back to Bradford nine days later and went to the police station with his solicitor.
