Bradford Bulls coach Matthew Elliott has hinted at big problems for the opposition once his new-look side find firmer conditions.

His side slogged their way to a deserved 18-6 Super League opening win over Sheffield Eagles in driving rain at Odsal yesterday leaving the head coach well satisfied especially with the a defensive stint.

But he added: "There were a lot of things that happened positively going forward as well and I think on a drier day, it would have been a long day for Sheffield.

"It will be nice to get to June and July but at the moment I am enjoying coaching them. During training they are giving their all and it is showing on the field."

Elliott singled out big close season signing Henry Paul and Mike Forshaw for special praise.

"Henry got a little loose in the last ten minutes but his effort over the whole game was great and he gave us so much direction.

"Mike was just outstanding. He just gets better and that is only his second game in a long time after coming back from injury."

Long term injury absentees Paul Anderson and Danny Peacock also made considerable progress down the comeback trail.

"Paul certainly made a big difference when he came on and when Danny got the ball it was 'hold on' time.

"He is an amazing character. From the very moment that he injured his knee and people told him he would never play again he has driven me mad.

"Not only is he doing well but players love being alongside him because he is just so committed."

Elliott's thoughts now turn to the Challenge Cup quarter-final against in-form Warrington Wolves at Odsal next Sunday (2.30).

And he expects to be boosted by the availability again after injury of scrum-half Paul Deacon (ankle) and Steve McNamara who was withdraw late in the week after sustaining a shoulder injury in a training collision with Warren Jowitt.

Prop Brian McDermott was absent after a stomach complaint.

"I have some more interesting decisions to make this week. Warrington are in great form and it will be a very tough game but we will be ready for them," added Elliott.
