Two dozen highway maintenance, lighting improvement and traffic calming schemes are set to get the green light.

The package of proposals include providing parking spaces and footpaths, verge hardening, traffic calming and street lighting at locations throughout the Shipley district.

And the measures, worth £104,500, are being recommended for approval by members of Bradford Council's Shipley Constituency Area Panel, which meets on Tuesday.

The proposed spending includes £22,500 for lighting improvements during 1999-2000 on Coach Road at Baildon, Birklands Road and the Manor Lane area in Shipley and the footpath between Littlelands and Airedale Avenue at Cottingley.

The rest of the £50,000 available to the panel for general highway maintenance during the coming financial year has been earmarked for footpath refurbishment and renewal, gully replacement and verge hardening.

The schemes recommended for approval include verge hardening at Fairbank, Shipley; Fyfe Lane, Baildon, and Airedale Avenue, Cottingley.

Paths are set to be provided at Bradford Old Road, Cottingley, and Harden Road in the Bingley ward with £4,000 allocated for footway refurbishment on Hirstwood Road, Saltaire.

Councillors are also being asked to approve giving priority for the implementation of ten schemes, funded through the panel's minor works and road safety budgets for 1999/2000 and 2000/2001.

The £54,500 package includes the installation of a turning area and lay-by at Pratt Lane, Windhill; traffic calming in the Marley View area at Crossflatts and providing parking spaces in Glenwood Avenue and Thirlmere Grove, Baildon.

Verge hardening is recommended for approval at Leeds Road and Owlet Road - where the installation of a lay-by is also proposed - in Windhill and Rosebery Avenue, Shipley, with £6,000 worth of footway provision earmarked for Station Road, Baildon, and Old Allen Road/Haworth Road at Harecroft.

The allocation of funding for the projects is due to be discussed by members of the area panel's advisory group, who meet at Shipley Library tomorrow night with Tuesday's panel meeting getting under way at the Town Hall at 3.30pm when a decision will be made.
