A Bradford firm which has safety as its watchword has developed a new product which is set to revolutionise visibility at night.

Dandy UK, which is based in Brackendale Mills, Thackley, has worked for two years with a Japanese company to develop its Glo-Web product.

The webbing doesn't just reflect light, it builds up an energy source to allow it to glow and can be used as additional protection on safety clothing.

The webbing contains a pigment which, when exposed to natural or artificial light, gives out a glow in dark places. It recharges during the day to start the process again.

One of the business partners, Dennis McCoy, said today: "We have received tremendous response from the safety industry and trial orders have already been placed from customers in the UK and several from Germany and France."

The firm, which was formed in April 1996, by Mr McCoy and Andrew Loftus, has seen its sales grow by more than 50 per cent in the last year.

Mr Loftus added: "We have managed to expand our business in these markets due to the ability to move with the times in developing new and innovative products and enhancing them with new and technology-based marketing strategies."

The company has created six jobs to add to the two workers it already had and now has a wide range of products which help people to put safety first.

The firm won a contract to produce a high-strength webbing for a Croydon company which develops special effects and props for TV shows, including The Gladiators.

Dandy has also produced material that helps strengthen lifejackets which save hundreds of lives on Britain's coasts each year.
