An estate agent has promised to clear up his son's house after neighbours complained it had stood as an eyesore for more than three years.

Jack Midgley, of Midgley's Estate Agents, said he would clear up building debris and prune overgrown plants after neighbours in Moorside Road, Eccleshill, complained the back-to-back was harming the value of their homes.

Mr Midgley, whose son Neil bought the house in 1996, said he was unaware neighbours were annoyed.

Seven householders signed a petition last November and handed it to a ward councillor.

Peter Rennard, 74, who complained about the house, said: "They had builders in soon after it was bought but the house was never finished and the rubble is still there.

"It's in a right state and I'm sick of looking at it. It affects the value of our houses. I contacted the Council but nothing came of that."

Mr Midgley said his son had been unable to finish the house after he suffered serious leg injures in a car crash at Bolton junction soon after he bought it. He said his son had now moved and the house would be put up for sale this summer.

He said: "I appreciate it would affect the price of their properties and I'll get it cleared up.

"My son had a rod in his leg for two years and couldn't do any work on it. I appreciate it's an eyesore and though it's not my house I'll do something about it." Councillor Peter Lancaster (Eccleshill, Labour) said he had taken up the issue on behalf of residents but was told the Council was powerless to intervene because the house did not pose a health hazard.

He said: "Mr Midgley did promise me months ago he would do something about it but nothing has happened."
