The Foreign Office is to apply for permits to visit the sons of a former Bradford builder who have been charged with his murder.

Graham Anderson was beaten to death and his dismembered body dumped in woods in France where he had been living for nine years.

His 15-year-old son, Tim, and his step-son James Lee, 22, who hails from Yorkshire, have been charged with his murder.

His estranged wife Jacqueline, 47, and an unnamed family friend have been charged with disposing of the body.

A Foreign Office spokesman said a post mortem had been carried out but the results were not available.

He added: "James and Tim have been remanded and we have applied for permits. They will be issued today and we expect to visit them this week.

"Our concern is for their welfare and that they are treated well, are given legal access and know why they are being detained. We would also give them any messages from friends in the UK."

He added that public money was not available for flying Mr Anderson's body home.

Mr Anderson's daughter, Louise Marsden said she had been told her father's body must be buried or cremated by the end of the week.

She said: "I don't know what we will be doing but I want him to come back over here."

Bringing him home will cost her and her husband £3,500 but they are determined to find the money.
