A woman has told of the dying moments of her sister who was shot by her boyfriend.

Sobiya Afzal was speaking after her sister's boyfriend Jahanzab Khan Ismail, 28, pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of 26-year-old Nighat Sultana Afzal at a flat in Bradford almost three years ago.

He also admitted possessing a firearm when prohibited from doing so.

Ismail, of no fixed address, was remanded in custody and will be sentenced at a later date.

At a hearing before Bradford magistrates four months ago, when reporting restrictions were lifted, it was stated that Ismail had loaded bullets into a semi-automatic pistol when he visited his girlfriend at her sister's flat in Avenham Way, Bradford, in May 1996.

After then removing bullets from the gun he fired it, thinking it was empty, but there was still a live round inside the chamber.

Ismail's solicitor at that time, Ray Singh, described the shooting as "a tragic accident''.

But today Nighat's sister Sobiya said: "I feel he killed my sister over a game. No justice has been done."

"She called my name twice and then called for my mother. I saw her mouth filling with blood. She died later in hospital."

After the shooting police launched a hunt and Ismail fled the country to Pakistan. He did not come back to Britain until two years later and he was eventually arrested in February this year in London and was brought back to Bradford and charged.

His solicitor had told a court that Ismail had fled because he was frightened after press reports.

At earlier court appearances, Mr Singh said Ismail had been showing off with the gun, which he had bought on the day of the shooting and he had no intention of harming his girlfriend.
