Bradford City will make their own piece of history on Thursday when they become the first Division One club to receive runners-up medals.

The medals and a new runners-up trophy will be presented at a specially arranged friendly match at Valley Parade (7.45pm) between City and John Hendrie's Invitation XI.

Former City favourite Hendrie, who was sacked as Barnsley manager three weeks ago, is busily contacting players to appear for his side.

He said: "Chairman Geoffrey Richmond got in touch with me last Friday and asked if I could organise a team, but obviously I could not do anything until after City actually won promotion so I started work getting the side together yesterday.

"Preferably, I would like to include as many former City players as possible and I am ringing players and clubs to ask whether they are available. I intend to play some part in the game myself and I am looking forward to it.

"It will be a smashing night for the club - a night of celebration. I know what everyone at Valley Parade is going through because we went through exactly the same thing at Barnsley when we were promoted to the Premiership two years ago.

"No one expected Barnsley to do it and my advice to City supporters is to savour the moment.

"You don't always get moments like this in football so you have got to enjoy them. It is a fantastic achievement for the club and I am delighted for them.

"You have got to take your hat off to everyone at the club for spending the money and giving it a go.

"I was asked to go to the Ipswich-Sheffield United match on Sunday to do summaries for Radio 5, but I must confess I spent most of the afternoon watching the City match on a TV screen above the commentary position.

"It was great to watch them. They thoroughly deserved to win. It was a super performance."

Admission to the Ciba and Sunwin stands will be £10 with £5 concessions while a family ticket is available for one adult and one junior, priced at £10. Tickets for the kop will cost £5 with £2 concessions.
