Local Cricket: League and cup victories keep Steeton as the only Aire-Wharfe team with a 100 per cent record, with Aussie Matthew Pinniger already close to 250 runs from four innings.

But Andrew Smith's side will still be cautious about their progress as they made an identical start last season and ended up fighting against relegation. For now, though, things look very bright after beating Burley by 26 runs to top the Division A table, and then removing Addingham from the Waddilove Cup by seven wickets.

Pinniger, third in the averages last season, hit an impressive 84 as Steeton set Burley a 222-run target for victory.

Duncan Hurd, who also took four wickets, cracked a half century, with Jamie Davey unbeaten on 47, but Burley couldn't find an answer to Neil Spragg's five-wicket spell and were bowled out with eight overs left. Addingham provided less resistance in the cup, dismissed for just 96. Russell Newton (41) and Pinniger (50no) raced to victory.

Silsden were another side enjoying a good weekend, knocking Beckwithshaw out of the cup and coming within an ace of beating defending champions Adel in the league.

Andrew Knowles (86no) and John Akrigg (68) shared a 135-run stand in Silsden's 201 for five, and even though Andrew Pullan weighed in with five wickets, Adel hung on with two wickets to spare. Pullan (45no) and David Jackson (58no) steered Silsden to victory after David Baluk took five for 36 to help dismiss Beckwithshaw for 147.

Much-fancied Rawdon crashed to two defeats at the hands of North Leeds by eight wickets in the league and six runs in the cup.

Andy Sugars was the only man to dent North Leeds' superiority with 40 and three wickets in the latter game.

Calverley will be sick of the sight of Barry McCormick who steered Guiseley to a double win over them, scoring 52 in the six wicket league victory and cracking six sixes and 12 fours in a 108-ball 129 to put Guiseley in the next round of the cup.

Five wickets each for Mick Scott and Peter Frances clinched Skipton's seven wicket win over Otley, who were bowled out for 121, and Chris Gott's side produced an even more impressive performance the next day to restrict cup holders Knaresborough to 96 for four and earn a second-round place with five wickets to spare.

Otley at last had something to celebrate after three straight defeats, when they knocked Tong Park out of the cup. Robert Hodgson was the hero, taking seven for 20 as Park were skittled out for 45.

Horsforth and Ilkley played out a drawn league match before both going out of the cup to Burley and Green Lane respectively. Nick Brook was the Burley star with an outstanding 13-over spell of six for eight as Horsforth were dismissed for 61.

There was another fine spell by Jason Scott who took three for six as Menston shrugged off a home defeat by Illingworth to beat Hall Park by 36 runs. A 102 opening stand between Simon O'Brien and Andrew Haslett set up the victory.

Outstanding bowling by Tracey Mahoney (5-18) and Dave Tidmarsh (4-24) dismissed Lawnswood for 67 and sent newly promoted Pool to the top of the First Division of the Leeds League.

Otley Town have found promotion a bit harder and crashed to their second defeat as Great Preston spinner Mohamed Nawaz (5-35) and Andrew Clarke (4-51) restricted them to 125, 63 short of their target.

Olicanian went 59 balls without scoring a run as they lost home to Pool Mills, by which time they were already four wickets down.
