Prog rockers Parallel or 90 Degrees are not one of the most familiar names on Bradford's live music scene.

But all that could soon change. The five-piece went down well at a recent - and rare - hometown gig at the New Beehive in Bradford, and are now toying with the idea of organising a special prog rock night at the venue.

PO90 are also lined up for a slot at Rio's in Bradford on June 26, with Boot Led Zeppelin.

Guitarist and backing vocalist Gareth Harwood said the group, whose members live in Bradford, Leeds and Burley-in-Wharfedale, did not deliberately avoid playing locally.

"The band just doesn't gig that often. We tend to get our gigs through the Classic Rock Society," he said.

But PO90, who also feature Andy Tillison on vocals and keyboards, Sam Baine on keyboards, John Doe on bass and Lee Duncan on drums, now have a new album out and are keen to promote it by playing live.

"The gig at the Beehive went well and served its purpose. We thought we might do a prog night and see what happened as an experiment," said Gareth.

The CD, called Time Capsule, is their third and is released by Cyclops Records. It has received particularly favourable reviews in Holland where the band played in February, and comparisons have been made to contemporary bands as well as the likes of Yes and Pink Floyd.

One of the most impressive tracks on the album is Unforgiving Skies, which has also become one of the band's favourites on stage.

"It works really well live now. It has a piano intro instead of an acoustic guitar intro," said Gareth.
