WADDILOVE Cup holders Knaresborough were shock losers when this season's competition got underway losing to Skipton by five wickets.

The draw for the second round to be played on Sunday, May 23, is - North Leeds v Skipton, Silsden v Adel, Bilton v Burley, Otley v Green Lane. Byes to the third round are Menston, Steeton, Follifoot and Guiseley.

Knaresborough were restricted to 96-7 by some steady Skipton bowling with M Taylor taking 3-21 and Mick Scott conceding just 23 runs off 16 overs although he did not take a wicket.

Former Pudsey St Lawrence pair Chris Gott (31) and Sean Atkinson (24) then saw their side to victory.

Burley bowler Nick Brook gave a superb bowling performance destroying Horsforth with his 6-8 return off 12 overs.

Horsforth fell for 61 and Brook's brothers Richard and David opened the batting to take Burley to the verge of victory sharing a stand of 52 before David was dismissed for 24. Richard made an unbeaten 31.

Ilkley were no match for high flying Green Lane who made 187-9 with Australian Chris Cay again in good form with a knock of 62. Ilkley then fell for 125 despite the efforts of Robert Wyn Griffith (43) and Jon Hughes (31).

Otley were happy to record a fine win over Tong Park with Robert Hodgson grabbing the limelight with a superb bowling performance. He took 7-20 in 13 overs as Tong Park fell for 45. Otley went on to win by six wickets.

Menston put Hall Park out of the competition making 175-6 which was too high a target for Denis Rock's men who fell for 139 as Jason Scott did the damage with a 3-6 return. Openers Simon O'Brien (42) and Andrew Haslett (50) gave Menston a good start with an opening stand of 102.

Guiseley's overseas star Barry McCormick smashed a superb 129 off the Calverley attack to help set a target beyond Calverley's capabilities.

Rawdon completed an unhappy weekend by crashing out of the cup to North Leeds whose 197-8 proved just too much for them. Rawdon finished on 181 all out with only a mid order 40 from Andrew Sugars keeping them in the frame.

Birtwhistle Cup

IN the Birtwhistle Cup Tong Park brought shame on the league by having only four players to face Otley and they had to concede the tie. It is understood the playing strength was decimated by people watching Bradford City's bid for Premiership glory.
