England Worthside Ltd, which supplies equipment for the drinks industry, has recruited two women engineers. Louise Critchley is a Modern Apprentice in welding and fabrication, and Jodie Allwood has responsibility for research and design.

Jodie, 20, a former pupil of Keighley's Oakbank School, says: "I feel I am fitting in well and enjoying the work and training. I chose engineering as a career because I never really fancied office work, and I have always been interested in practical things."

Louise, also 20, says: "It's great. More women should come into engineering."

England Worthside's Richard Bunton says: "Both Louise and Jodie have impressed us with their enthusiasm, as well as their expertise and understanding of engineering. They are fitting in well and doing a good job."

Louise and Jodie both developed their engineering skills as trainees with Keighley & District Training Association Ltd (KADTAL).

KADTAL general manager Ian Nichol says: "We are very proud of the number of women engineers we have been able to recruit in the past. Louise and Jodie are excellent examples of the contribution that girls and women can make to the engineering industry.

"We still have vacancies at the moment, and would welcome further applications from girls and women," he says.
