The family of little Danielle Wood face an agonising wait to discover if she suffers from a rare brain condition.

They fear the six-year-old, pictured, may have Rasmussen's Syndrome, a childhood brain illness which takes the form of chronic epilepsy and which is believed to have affected only 52 people across the world since 1952.

Her mother Michelle, of Fell Lane, Keighley, said they were upset by the uncertainty. Now an appeal has been launched to send the youngster - a pupil at Nessfield School, Keighley - to EuroDisney.

Michelle said: "She has always wanted to go from being tiny.''

The first signs of problems with Danielle emerged a year ago when she began to have difficulty concentrating and a few months later began to suffer seizures. The seizures can eventually become continuous and difficult to control with medication. The disease can often be quite advanced before it is diagnosed.

Michelle says: "Danielle looks healthy. She runs about and plays, but if you knew her as she was months ago, she has altered a lot. She can't count to 20 without losing a few numbers in between and has started putting her shoes on the wrong feet."

To finance a trip to EuroDisney, The Lord Rodney pub on Church Green is holding a fundraising day on Sunday, September 5. Local bands The End, Beyond Belief, Montank Island and Sarah Foxcroft are playing. There will be an auction of signed football shirts from premiership teams and some players will make personal appearances.

Tickets cost £4 and can be obtained from the Lord Rodney, Anne-Marie Vear on 01535 213665 or Betty Taylor on 01535 664277.
