A host of celebrities have lent their support to needy animals at the RSPCA home in Bradford.

Film star Hugh Grant, Oscar-winning actor Sir Anthony Hopkins, and the stars from The Bill and Coronation Street have all donated items for a silent auction at the Mount Street home on Bank Holiday Monday.

The family event from 11am to 4pm at the Mount Street animal home is open to everyone. The home looks after stray and needy animals from across the district.

Among the lots for the silent auction are signed photographs of Hugh Grant, Sir Anthony Hopkins, the cast of The Bill, EastEnders, Coronation Street, David Bellamy, and Sir Richard Attenborough.

Also going under the hammer are two teddy bears from the boy band 5ive, a signed script from The Bill, a coat worn by Coronation Street's Sally Webster and a Linda McCartney vegetarian cook book, donated by Sir Paul McCartney.

There will also be two separate raffles, to win a Bradford Bulls signed rugby ball and a model farmyard worth £250.

"We want to make this a great Bank Holiday day out for all the family," said Margaret Blundell, general manager of the RSPCA in Bradford.

"We are delighted with all the support we have received from sports stars and celebrities.

''As it costs £250,000 a year to run the home, we hope their donations will result in a great fundraising boost."

The event also includes an exemption dog show, performances by the Wibsey Brass and Reed Band, a magician and a fancy dress competition for children.

There will be stalls, tombolas, games and a caf for refreshments.

Registration for the dog show is from noon and the show begins at 1pm. Children can register for the fancy dress competition between 11am and 11.30am and they will be judged at noon.

Part of Mount Street, around the home, will be closed during the fun day and visitors are asked to park in surrounding streets.
