DOUGIE Lampkin stormed to his fifth consecutive win in the British Trials Championship series on Sunday when he won the Yeadon and Guiseley Motor Club Mackenzie Trophy trial at Addingham Moorside less than a mile from his Silsden home.

The multiple world and national champion is now, at the age of 23, on the verge of taking his fifth British title ahead of Isle of Man ace Steve Colley. He stunned Lampkin into action after a blistering opening lap on the windswept hilltop overlooking the Lampkin farm.

Colley's fine opening burst put him ahead of Canterbury rider Graham Jarvis and both riders now share equal second place in the title battle.

With the forecast rain absent Colley went away with Martin Crosswaite at the head of the championship class, the former covering his opening lap with a penalty free score whilst Crosswaite, fresh from his Euro trial championship events, was well with Colley until the penultimate climb when he lost three vital marks.

Dougie Lampkin and main challenger Graham Jarvis lost a wasted single mark at one section then Jarvis stopped on the 11th and that more or less cast the die for him for the rest of the day.

Ironically Crosswaite lost a podium spot by one penalty mark after a tight battle with Jarvis and was clearly annoyed with his own performance.

'I lost two easy marks on the last lap. I should not have made that mistake and it cost me third spot,' said the Bingley 20 year-old.

Lampkin will ride in the Trials des Nations world trials team at Ettlebruck, Luxembourg, next month as a member of the British squad . Also in the team will be Martin Crosswaite, Steve Colley and Graham Jarvis.

The British side has a mountain to climb after the Spanish Federation has backed its team to the hilt with full kit, hotel bills paid and a guarantee of £2,000 a man bonus to win.

In the support event expert class Durham police officer Andy Huddleston missed the action because of his duties so the way was clear for Sheffield's Dan Thorpe to take the top prize and points and share the title lead with Belfast's Andy Perry who was third behind James Lampkin, a cousin of Dougie.

It was a crashing time for Guiseley teenager Chris Carter with two falls, two sets of handlebars and then a huge crash on the ninth section which saw him cartwheel down the rock strewn hillside. He got up stirred but not shaken.

Henry Moorhouse took the youth class in style but not without incident. Starting the last of the three laps Henry's Gas Gas broke its steering bolt at the first section and was out if it had not been for the efforts of David Walker and Fort William visitor Roger Mount.

They stripped David's similar machine and swapped the broken parts to get Henry back into the event in half an hour. The Leeds teenager was third overall in the experts section.
