RESIDENTS on an Otley housing estate are will get their say on plans for a children's playground in their community.

After initial consulation with residents, revised plans are being put forward for the creation of a playground on land west of Riverdale Road, funded by Riverdale Gardens estate developers, Turner Homes.

Some £40,000 has been set aside to build the site which is on the perimeter of an adjoining playing field. A public meeting in April saw residents turn down initial plans for the site.

Now revised plans have been put together by the city council to include two swings, a roundabout, a multi-unit and safety mats. The emphasis of the playground is now on toddlers.

Safety barriers will be placed around the swings while the kiddies' roundabout replaces initial plans for a see-saw. There are also additional benches.

A public display is being held in Otley Civic Centre and Councillor John Eveleigh (Lab, Otley and Wharfedale) has arranged for comment forms to be available at the reception desk.

Coun Eveleigh said: "I hope as many people as possible in the Riverdale Road area of town will take this opportunity to pop into the Civic Centre, look at the plans and let myself or my town council colleagues in Manor Ward know what they think."

A letter has also been sent to residents explaining the proposals.

Coun Eveleigh added: "These proposals have already been widely welcomed by local people who recognise the need for a safe place for young children to play in this part oif town.

"The consultation carried out between town and city councils has helped to make sure that the proposals best meet local needs and I am happy to pass on any further suggestions once people have ghad the chance to see the revised plans."
