THIRTY jobs have been lost at a Broughton computer business which has had to close this week.

Mike Seery and Peter Terry, of KPMG Corporate Recovery, have been called in as joint receivers at Principal Distribution, which was based at Broughton Hall, Skipton.

The company was formed as part of a management buyout from the previous owners four years ago.

Mr Seery said: "Due to intense competition and narrow profit margins, there has been an upswing in recent months in the number of computer companies going into receivership in the north of England."

The computer company imported hardware and software which it distributed throughout the UK. Companies in America began to demand the purchase of larger volumes of equipment and altered the credit terms. This resulted in cash flow difficulties.

Principal Distribution had an annual turnover of almost £18 million, and employed 25 staff at its Broughton premises and a further five at a satellite office in Uxbridge, Middlesex.
