A Silsden solicitor has been warned he could face suspension by the Law Society.

Christopher John Lynam had repeatedly failed to submit an accountants report for the period ending 28 February 1997, a hearing in London was told last Thursday.

He has been given a further six months to comply by the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal. But he was warned that he could face further action - including suspension - if he still fails to submit the report.

Geoffrey William, for the Law Society, told the tribunal that Mr Lynam had worked in sole practice as C J Lynam, in Kirkgate, Silsden, until he closed the practice in August 1997.

He was now employed giving technical advice to another firm of solicitors in the area.

Mr Williams said that Mr Lynam had handled all other aspects of his firm's closure immaculately, but the accountant's report was still outstanding. Such reports were vital if the public was to be confident its funds were being properly handled, he added.

Mr Lynam told the hearing his business had fallen apart in 1996 and he had been unable to keep up payments to his bank.

He had got a job with a large firm's conveyancing department but it did not pay very well and he had experienced difficulty raising the estimated £2,000 needed to get an accountant's report.
