A 97-year-old woman, attacked in her own home by masked robbers, told today of her determination not to let the ordeal ruin her life.

Meanwhile police hunting the robbers have renewed their appeal for the public's help, saying they believe the pair will strike again unless caught.

Nora Hinds was pinned to a chair after a masked raider and his accomplice climbed through a window at her Rawdon home on August 10.

The pair ransacked her house before fleeing with a small amount of cash, leaving Mrs Hinds unhurt but shaken.

Six weeks on, Mrs Hinds, who will be 98 in December, told the Telegraph & Argus her ordeal had had no long-term lasting effects on her, adding: "It did upset my routine, such as it is, for a little while but I'm fine now and getting back to normal.

"I think they thought they could kick me out of my house by doing that but they can't.

"I've never known anything like this happen round here before but I've been here 70 years and I'm not going now.''

Mrs Hinds said she was moved to hear of people's shock at her ordeal and the fact that people considered her brave, adding: "That's very kind of them.''

Detective Inspector Liam MacNamara, of Weetwood CID, said despite calls from more than a dozen members of the public - including some from criminals disgusted by the robbers' actions - the offenders were still at large.
