Bradford Grammar School rugby union team have lost their first two matches, conceding a total of 71 points and scoring only five.

Following their 38-5 home defeat at Ampleforth College in the first match, they crashed 33-0 at home to Yarm School, but master in charge, Charles Lines took encouragement from the match.

He said: "It was a far better performance than the previous week at Ampleforth.

"Our line-out work was much improved and the backs orchestrated well with Michael Creswick at fly half.

"But we were overrun in the second half by a very good pack and some strong and physical backs."

Bradford played up the slope into a strong wind in the first half and it was to their credit that that they turned round at half-time only 14-0 down.

They had great pressure early in the second half with Creswick using the wind to good advantage putting them into good positions in Yarm's 22m area.

On one occasion, the Yarm backs infringed at the line-out, Bradford decided to run the penalty instead of opting for the kick and full back Andrew Towers had the ball wrestled from his grasp

Their next try came after 50 minutes when their strong inside centre rounded off a move to score under the posts.

They had two further scores in the last 20 minutes as the pressure of containing a larger side began to tell, but Bradford still managed to put together a few passages of play with good interpassing.

Bradford's only try in the Ampleforth match came when Peter Hull charged down a clearance and won the chase for the ball, but by that time the match was lost.
