Whetley Lane bid to relive former glories when they make their first appearance in the FA Umbro Cup 2000 for over 40s against Manchester team Old Ashtonians at Fields tomorrow (3.30pm).

Lane, along with Shelf Vets, are in a league of six teams, the other four being Lancashire sides.

The competition later adopts a knockout format.

Lane's side includes survivors of their successful team of the 1980s including Dave Morgan, Colin Dunn and Paul Mitchell.

Graham Gilderdale and ex-Oakenshaw player Micky Adamson are the two 38-year-olds the competition rules allow.

The game of the day in Division One of the Sunday Alliance tomorrow sees Wrose Bull and Craven Heifer meet.

With Bull unbeaten at home and Craven undefeated away, something must crack.

Second placed Westwood, surprise casualties in the district cup last week, should bounce back at Milestone.

The big game in the Premier Division would have been the Oakenshaw versus Albion Sports clash, which has been cancelled because Albion are representing Bradford in a tournament in Glasgow.
