MEMBERS of the Burley Bridge Association are to leaflet every house in the village in a bid to raise money to see their dream turn into reality.
The leaflet provides up-to-date information on many of the
questions that are currently being asked about the bridge and includes a picture of how the bridge will look when it is completed.
The leaflet contains an application for membership of the Burley Bridge Association, individual annual membership costing £7 and family membership £10.
Colin Newton, chairman of the Burley Bridge Association, who lives on Hall Drive in Burley, said
he hoped large numbers of people
in Burley would join the Association.
Mr Newton said: "There has been a battle over the bridge, but it is now over, and planning permission has been obtained. Many more people by far in Burley have been in favour of the bridge than against.
"A bridge over the Wharfe really is going to be good for Burley, and for residents of all age groups. It is now time for the opposition to the bridge to be consigned to the past."
Mr Newton said the bridge would provide an attractive alternative walk for Burley residents on their own doorstep.
He said: "Now is the time for the resident of Burley to get behind the bridge and show that they really want it.
"A substantial part of the funding must be raised by public subscription in Burley. If the residents of Burley don't get behind it, a marvellous recreational amenity for the village will be lost, both for the present and for future generations," said Mr Newton.
l Burley's community council is proposing to register Burley House Field as a village green.
Members of the community council are determined to preserve the site from future development.
l Burley Community Council has allocated committee responsibilities for the year.
