Angling: With dwindling match entries the norm of late it was pleasing to see the Bradford area playing host to the Yorkshire regions two biggest matches of the weekend with almost 300 anglers on the banks of the Calder and the Huddersfield Broad Canal.

Ricky Bonas topped the 150 entry Calder Championships with 15-14-0. Drawn on the current hot peg at the back of the Cornmill pub the Nigel Hirst Tackle man made no mistakes netting roach, dace and chublets on waggler and maggot.

The Huddersfield Broad Canal drew its biggest crowd of the season for Sunday's Alliance open with 148 anglers lining the towpath. Although there were no big weights roach fed throughout ensuring a fair match with over 4lb needed to win every section. The odd bonus fish that did show made all the difference in a tight contest and Phil Naylor (Browning Woodlands) found three at his peg at Cooper Bridge. Fishing caster over chopped worm at six metres he netted two ide, a bream plus ten roach for 7-2-0. Jason Hirst (Trabucco Halifax) took second from a red hot peg on the incinerator length where he worked with pole and punch at 11 metres for 75 roach and 6-9-0.

John Leyland (RSPS) legered bread at Maunby for seven chub and a solitary barbel scaling 20-6-0.
