Paul Jewell has hit back at mounting criticism of his Bradford City side who he believes are "not wanted in the Premiership" by pledging to prove the knockers wrong.

The Bantams moved out of the bottom three with their 1-0 victory at Derby at the weekend but Jewell again saw his side criticised for a negative approach.

Derby defender Spencer Prior also incensed Jewell when he said after the game: "In all the years I have played Premier League, they are the worst team I have faced. But they have come here and won."

The City boss said: "We know we are not playing as well as we can but you accept victories when they come along.

"I think Prior's comments are most disappointing because he is knocking fellow professionals who are in the same union. Where did Spencer Prior come from? Southend and Norwich wasn't it? I think Spencer Tracey is more famous than him.

"It is disappointing when an opposition player says something like that - I would certainly never get involved in anything like that because if I am discussing an opposition team then I am only ever complimentary.

"When we play Derby later in the season and if he is still in the side then I will pin that up in the dressing room wall instead of giving a team-talk.

"If you had read some of the press we received during the summer after winning promotion, it looked like we would be everyone's favourite second team this season. But that has not proved to be the case.

"Watford appear to be everyone's darlings and it appears that we are not wanted in the Premier League. We are getting used to it now and it doesn't affect us.

"All we can do is our best. We know we deserve to be in the Premier League and must work very hard to stay here. And we are determined to do just that."
