An open invitation for people to design the kind of road signs they actually want has so far met with a lukewarm response.

People in Rawdon, Guiseley and Yeadon were given the opportunity to come up with their own designs after the huge public backlash against Leeds City Council's Welcome to Leeds signs.

More than 3,600 people signed a petition against the £1,000 Leeds signs that went up all over Wharfedale and Aireborough.

But so far, very few people have come up with their own designs and the deadline of November 1 is approaching.

Councillor Moira Dunn (Lab, Aireborough), said she was keen for the people of Aireborough to get involved in the competition.

"If we get a reasonable response we will display the designs at Guiseley Theatre, Yeadon Town Hall and at Micklefeld House at Rawdon," she said.

But she added despite the competition being launched three months ago, so far there had been a poor response.

Sketches and ideas for signs should be sent to Councillor Moira Dunn at Leeds Civic Centre, Portland Crescent, LS1 1UR.
