Amateur Rugby League: Queensbury are joint top of the Pennine Premier Division following an impressive 28-4 success at previously unbeaten Moldgreen.

The return of second row forward Matthew Galtress gave the pack more fire power and Martin Potts revelling in his new role at stand-off provided the platform for tries by Lee Charlton (2) and Trevor Stead.

Teenage full back Gareth Hobson showed what a fine prospect he is with a superb touch down and wingman Steven Gallagher converted all four tries. When the former Conference League outfit went astray Gallagher punished them with a further two penalties to secure the points.

The return of the influential Scott Pendlebury inspired Clayton to a 25-24 success at Sowerby Spartans.

The lively scrum half led the way with a try which was further capitalised on when centre Damian Birkett crossed for two excellent efforts - his first for the club. Darren Collins chipped in with three conversions and three-drop goals which proved vital at the end.

A late try from powerful forward Mark Schofield bang on the stroke of time gave the Villagers their first points of the season.

Birkenshaw claimed top spot in Division One following their 36-20 success in the local derby at Undercliffe. Birky full back Morton Robinson was in attacking mode, posting two tries to claim the man of the match award.

The ever-reliable Jason Brooksbank also crossed the line and scrum half Ryan Bostock together with substitute Mickey Glenn (2) also posted vital efforts. Jarrod Toulson converted five and there was a solo goal from Phil Smith.

Odsal Sedbergh lost a close game 16-12 against Park Amateurs A at Odsal Rec. Sedbergh had a golden opportunity to snatch the points when they were awarded a last minute penalty under the sticks but could not breach a strong visiting defence.

In Division Two Wyke's bandwagon keeps rolling following a 40-12 win at home to Hollinwood but Dudley Hill Eagles valiant effort failed 36-20 against older and more experience St Joseph's. The young Eagles were all square 16-16 at half time but the Huddersfield side used their superior weight to grind them down in the second half.

Rueben Joseph, Kirk Johnson and Neil Harland posted tries with Chris Walsh grabbing a brace and two conversions.

Division Three pace setters West Bowling A walloped Underbank Rangers A 76-12. Stand-off Jason Woolham must be knocking loudly on the first team door following his impressive hat-trick and 12 goals which gave him a tally of 36 points.

He was joined on the score sheet with tries from Wesley Brearton (2), Paul Ali (2), Ryan Hunkin (2), Dean Minchella, Steve Gregory, Peter Ryan and Bob Benn.

Division Four Victoria Rangers continue to climb the table following their cracking 24-22 win at Lindley Swifts A.

The Vics hit back from a 12-0 deficit with a try from Gary Mitchell converted by Phil Greenwood to go into the break 12-6 down. Hooker Ray Greenwood added two converted tries on the restart but it was left to flying wingman John Belcher to grab the spoils with a length of the field touchline dash in the dying minutes which clinched a superb win.

Queensbury A strengthened their iron grip on the top spot by inflicting an 11 try mauling on neighbours Clayton A 62-8.

The tries came from Shaun Fallon (3), Andrew Barraclough (2), Luke Cooper (2), Mark Kraft, Paul Drake, Neil Hobson and Paul Skelton the goal kicking was shared between Drake (5) and Lee Baron (4). Recent signing Craig Magson from Dudley Hill took the eye with a hard working forward display.

The Thornton air is giving Division Five Shipley a new lease of life. They earned a 22-22 draw against much fancied Boothtown Terriers A at Hill Top.

Shipley scored tries by Guy Dunn, Neil Walters, Alan Hobson and Mark Smith, with Darren Ellerton on target with three conversions. West Bowling B could only muster a try from Matthew Haddock in a 48-4 defeat at Greetland.

In Division Six Birkenshaw A maintained their 100 per cent record with a convincing 64-0 win over Park Amateurs B. Centre Bob Thornton stole the show with four touchdowns.
