Snooker: The two Clubhouse in Cue Gardens players had a big hand in England retaining the 1999 Home International Series title at Prestatyn last week.

In the first match against Scotland both Wayne Cooper and Craig Butler had 2-1 victories. Cooper defeated Paul Cairns and Butler beat Michael Philbin, having a break of 77 and seeing England to a 13-5 victory.

In the next match England defeated Guernsey 15-3 with Cooper winning 2-1 against Adrian Holley having a break of 50.

England then had a 9-9 draw with the Republic of Ireland, this being the only point England dropped all week. Butler defeated John Farrell 3-0 and Cooper had a 2-1 win over Rodney Coggins.

In the match against the Isle of Man both Cooper and Butler had 3-0 wins against David Evans and Peter Godwin and the team won 17-1.

In the 13-5 win against Northern Ireland, both had 2-1 victories. Cooper defeated Brendan Whyte and Butler saw off Paul Sweeney.

But in the last match against Wales both lost, Cooper 2-1 to Ian Preece and Butler 3-0 to Matthew Farrant. England went on to win 10-8.

Of the six matches played England won five and drew one for 11 points and the Republic of Ireland were second with three wins and three draws for nine points. England won 77 frames to 31.

England also played two challenge matches with Malta and France. In the Malta match Butler won 3-0 against Arthur Cashia with the team winning 18-0 and they beat France 17-1 with Cooper beating David Gillet 3-0 and Butler losing the only frame winning 2-1 against Dominique Carre.

The England junior team won all their five matches with a frames score of 38 for and only seven against in their nine frame matches. With England's Ricky Walden having the best break of 101.

The England ladies made it a clean sweep when they won their four matches with Kelly Fisher (Pontefract) and Lisa Quick (Weston-super-Mare) both just dropping one frame out of 12 and Fisher having the highest break with 71.

This is the third season in succession that England have won all three titles and been undefeated.

Overall in the matches Wayne Cooper and Craig Butler each won 15 frames and lost six.
