Bradford's Thomas Poulton-White is celebrating double medal success after competing in the Worrld Athletics Championships for people with learning disabilities.

He returned from the championships in Seville, Spain, as the most successful member of the English team.

Thomas, 20, who attended Haycliffe School, Bradford and now works in the ancillary services department at Bradford University, won a silver medal in the 4 x 100m relay and a bronze in the 200m.

In taking the bronze Thomas reduced his personal best time from 23.4sec to 22.7sec. He is also a member of the GB Paralympic squad and hoping to be selected to compete in Sydney next year.

Thomas has had an exceptional season. He was the leading male athlete in the West Yorkshire Track and Field League, he competed in the Yorkshire Championships and achieved the qualifying standard for the North of England Championships.

He is the national Learning Disability Champion at 100m, 200m, 400m and long jump. He competes regularly for the Skyrac athletics club who train at Becketts Park, Leeds, and Nunroyd Park, Guiseley, where he is coached by Gordon Agar.

Other athletes from the Yorkshire area who also took part in Seville included Claire Ryan, 20, who was sixth in the 800m and seventh in the 400m.
