Paul Jewell is looking for his Bradford City side to add some attacking polish to their gritty defensive displays when they face high-flying Sunderland.

The Wearsiders arrive in Bradford tomorrow with Paul Jewell's men determined to chalk up their first home victory of the season and build on last week's 1-0 success at Derby.

City have the joint fifth best defensive record in the Premiership but Jewell knows his side must improve on their paltry scoring tally of just four goals in eight league games.

The Bantams boss said: "We have only played three home games so far but we know we need to be far more creative. We have won two away games so it would be nice to get one at Valley Parade and give our fans a home win to cheer.

"We have been defending magnificently but we need to be much more positive in the final third. Of course, it is important we ensure that we don't get caught on the break.

"Sunderland have won their last two away games 5-0 so we know we cannot take them lightly."

Asked whether he thought his side would find it easier to create more chances at home tomorrow than they did on their travels at Derby and Aston Villa, Jewell quipped: "If we create two chances then it will be a big improvement on how we have been doing away from home!

"We had plenty of the ball against West Ham but couldn't quite score. We also created chances against Tottenham but couldn't finish them off."

City's on-loan striker Bruno Rodriguez is the main doubt for tomorrow's game after injuring his ankle in the reserves' 1-1 midweek draw with Blackburn.

Gareth Whalley also sustained a knock in training although Jewell expects his midfielder to be fit while Neil Redfearn is hoping to shrug off the ankle injury which has kept him out of the last two games.

City received a huge boost with last week's victory at Derby to jump out of the bottom three but Jewell knows his side must match that work-rate tomorrow.

He said: "Last week's result is gone now and the only game that matters is Sunderland. They have had a good start to the season which has not surprised me.

"What did surprise me though is how much stick Peter Reid took before a ball was kicked and then again when they lost 4-0 at Chelsea on the first day of the season.

"Tomorrow will be a tough test for our defence with Kevin Phillips having done very well. He has shown he has the ability to do well at the top level."
