RANGERS 45

LITTLEBOROUGH 0

GUISELEY Rangers registered yet another win last Saturday when they entertained Littleborough in a Division One match at Nunroyd Avenue.

This team from Rochdale is highly regarded and Rangers expected a close game but at the close of play the visitors had failed to register any points and were defeated by 45 points to nil. The match was late in starting due to the visitors not arriving on time due to traffic problems.

In only four minutes Rangers' coach Tony Smith opened the scoring when he received a pass close to the line and made no mistake.

The try was not converted but eight minutes later Nigel Sample went in for a try in the corner following some good passing by the home team and Rangers were in the lead by eight points.

Stuart Kay increased the lead when he landed a penalty goal following an incident when a visiting player was penalised for stealing the ball.

Nigel Sample went over for his second try in the 25th minute and Littleborough were having problems holding the home forwards. Sample's try came following one of Steve Barber's powerful runs.

Littleborough conceded a penalty close to their line which gave Simon Carbutt the opportunity to barge over for a try.

Just on the stroke of half-time Stuart Patchett went over for a try when Nigel Sample sent him a pass to make the half-time score 24-0 to Rangers.

The opening half had been dominated by Rangers' strong running forwards, in particular Steve Barber, who had been well supported by Andy Hinchliffe, Rangers stand-off half.

Eleven minutes into the second-half a well taken interception by Jon Beanland resulted in a try, converted by Stuart Kay and Littleborough were in trouble when minutes later Stuart Kay increased the lead for Rangers with a penalty goal.

The visiting centre, having challenged one of the referee's decisions, was sent to the sin-bin for ten minutes. A sin-binning the visitors could hardly afford.

Andy Hinchliffe, who had played well all through the match, dropped a goal in the 60th minute and then Stuart Kay went over for a try which he converted and Rangers were too far ahead, with the match well and truly won.

Nigel Sample was instrumental in the final try of the game when he intercepted a pass inside his own 20-metre line, handed on to Steve Tait who touched down.

The conversion by Stuart Kay took the final score to 45-0. This was another fine win for Rangers with Steve Barber Man-of-the-Match.
