A record-breaking hot shot is the latest monthly entrant in our Search for a Sporting Star, run in conjunction with Taywood Homes.

Paul Harrison, from Culling-worth, has been showing dead-eyed accuracy in both field and target archery since he took up the sport at the tender age of eight.

And his natural talent with the bow and arrow has led the youngster from Manywells Crescent to more than 20 titles across the country.

The 11-year-old's latest victory came on the beautiful Isle of Skye off the Scottish coast where he came first in a four- day target, field and clout shoot competition.

A pupil at Parkside Middle School, Paul's steady hands also helped him to break the British record for the under 12 Double Fita round target.

Mum Susan says: "Paul actually prefers field archery which involves shooting at artificial targets set up in woodland, but he broke the record for conventional target shooting.

"Regardless of what the weather is like, he is always out practising with his dad."

Susan says that the youngster's infectious enthusiasm for the sport has also encouraged fellow family members to have a go.

"His dad Wayne used to take part in archery when he was a teenager but gave it up when local clubs closed down," she says.

"But Paul has convinced him to start up again, and I have just started shooting with a crossbow."

A member of the Harden-based St Ives Bowmen Club, Paul is also twice winner of the Scottish Field Archery Cham-pionships and twice winner of the Aire and Wharfedale Field Shoot.

As well as his sharp shooting on the archery range, the youngster has also represented Parkside at cross-country running.

Parkside sports teacher Jonnie Butler says: "Paul always tells me about his successes and often brings trophies he has won for presentation in our regular community assembly, which we hold on Fridays.

"Paul travels far and wide so the prize money would be very welcome for travel costs and perhaps new equipment."

To nominate a youngster for the award simply outline his or her sporting achievements in a letter of no more than 200 words and state how they would spend the prize money.
