Police in Germany have been quizzing a man about the murder of Yvonne O'Brien.

Yvonne's brother Philip Graham, who lives in Keighley, has welcomed news of the arrest in Stuttgart.

Yvonne, who was brought up and educated in Keighley, was murdered on Majorca where her mutilated body was found in her rented flat in August. According to the island's Daily Bulletin paper Spanish police believe a prime suspect is a German businessman with whom Yvonne is thought to have had an affair. It is thought he subsequently sent her threatening letters from Germany.

Control Officer Ulrich Sauter, of Stuttgart police, said: "We have arrested a 44-year-old man.''

He said the man had been arrested at the city's airport in connection with a theft in Germany.

Mr Sauter said the man was still in custody in Stuttgart and had been questioned about Yvonne's murder and that German police were liaising with officers in Spain.

Mr Graham, says: "I'm led to believe he was arrested at Stuttgart airport and that he had applied for a visa to work in Brazil and was preparing to board a plane to leave.

"While there are still unanswered questions it's very hard to just get on with things as normal."

"You've always got questions going round in your head and wake up with it on your mind in the morning.

"Everything has to take its due course but this is another hurdle down and when we get to the end of the race hopefully we'll be able to get on with our lives again.''
