A man found hanging from a tree had been depressed about the death of his father, a Bradford inquest heard on Tuesday.

The body of Michael Hitch, 37, of Whitley Head, Steeton, was found by his brother Graham near Whitfield Reservoir last month.

In a statement read to the hearing Mr Hitch said shift working had begun to get his brother down and he took it badly when his father died in August. He had been treated for depression and had seemed to be improving.

On the day of his brother's death, he returned home to find a letter on the kitchen table which made him fear for his brother's safety.

Mr Hitch said he and his wife then drove to Intake Lane, Steeton, where they saw Michael's car.

As they set off towards the reservoir they met a friend, Mark Tillotson, who told them not to go up there as there was someone hanging from the trees. Mr Hitch said he continued alone and saw his brother hanging from a length of blue nylon rope.

He added: "I think it was the death of his father from motor neurone disease that signalled the events that led to his death."

Coroner Roger Whittaker recorded a suicide verdict.

A man found dead inside his fume-filled car had left a note telling his daughter why he was taking his own life, a Bradford inquest heard on Tuesday.

Coroner Roger Whittaker recorded a suicide verdict on 50-year-old Kenneth James Partington, of Woodside Road, Silsden.

The hearing was told how a farmer found Mr Partington inside his car, with its engine still running, at a layby at Redcar Lane, Steeton, in July. A pipe ran from the exhaust into the vehicle.

Inside an envelope on the dashboard was a note to his daughter Rachel.
