The Burley-in-Wharfedale Youth Forum is preparing to make the first of village youngsters' three wishes come true.

When the forum was established two years ago, young people were asked for the activities and facilities they would like to see established.

A skate park, a 'dry' pub and basketball area were the three main requirements. At Burley Commu-nity Council's Neighbourhood Forum, its chairman Bob Jones said there was enough money in the kitty to establish basketball nets.

Mr Jones, who is also an Ilkley parish councillor, told the meeting he was delighted the forum could at last start to provide the youngsters with the facilities they desired.

He said the plan was to screen the new nets with trees provided by the Forest of Bradford scheme and to provide eight benches for families who want to enjoy a picnic.

Mr Jones said it was also hoped to replace a fence in Victoria Park with a hedgerow, again to be provided by the Forest of Bradford.

He said the organisation would also provide 600 trees to be planted during National Tree Planting Week in November.

Mr Jones said the idea was to allow each youngster in the village to plant and take responsibility for his or her own tree.
