A family has been reunited with their beloved pet dog - thanks to the Telegraph & Argus.

Angela Craggs, of Windhill, Shipley, appealed through the T&A for the animal lover who 'adopted' their lost Cavalier King Charles spaniel from the kennels to give him back.

And, after reading the story and meeting Mrs Craggs, Bob Cull, of Wibsey, who adopted Zak from Fleet Kennels in Queensbury, agreed to hand him over.

Zak had been taken to the kennels after being picked up by the dog warden service when he escaped from the Craggs' garden.

Mr Cull, 59, said: "He'd settled down well with me and when I read the story I didn't know what to do at first.

"But when I thought about Zak, who had been with them since he was a puppy, I decided it would be best for him to go back.''

Mrs Craggs, 37, said she and her three children, Aaron, 15, Amy, 14, and Abigail, 11, were overjoyed to have Zak back home.

She said: "I can't put into words how grateful we are to Mr Cull for coming forward. It was a bit sad when we went to pick him up because they'd really taken to each other but we're just so pleased to get Zak back.

"The children are over the moon because I think we'd resigned ourselves to the fact we weren't going to get him back.''

Abigail said: "I was crying when I found out he'd been adopted but really pleased to get him back because I love him.''
