Members of Glusburn parish council say they are disappointed at other parishes' lack of commitment to the quest for a station at Cross Hills.

A meeting of six South Craven parish councils, hosted by Glusburn, has proved inconclusive.

Glusburn organised the gathering to enlist support from other parish councils for a feasibility study.

Without the £42,000 study, which would be carried out by Railtrack, further progress is impossible.

North Yorkshire County Council and Craven district council have each agreed to contribute £10,000 to the study, provided that Railtrack and Northern Spirit pay £9,500 between them - something they have so far refused to do.

Glusburn had pledged to pay part of the sum to speed up the process.

They hoped that other parish councils, standing to benefit from a station would follow suit.

But other problems stand in the way. The main one is the delays caused by the Cross Hills/Kildwick level crossing, where barriers are down for 36 minutes out of every hour.

Another station on the line would inevitably cause even longer delays and traffic jams.
