A nightclub boss is offering to refund taxi fares to revellers in a bid to revitalise Bradford city centre.

Mark Wilson, who is about to open a new club called The Milk Bar, says he wants to breathe new life into the city's club scene.

His idea is to encourage people from places like Bingley and Queensbury to come into the city centre by offering to pay the taxi fare of anyone travelling to the club from within a five-mile radius.

The scheme will only apply where the taxi contains at least four people who all pay full admission into The Milk Bar.

Mr Wilson believes it is the first time the idea has been put into practice in Britain.

"I work in Ibiza in the summer and we did it there but as far as I know there's nowhere else in this country that does this," he said.

"Obviously we don't want people to drink and drive and it is also encouraging people to come into Bradford city centre. What we want to do is revitalise the town centre and hopefully create a bit of buzz."

The Milk Bar will open in Cheapside, Bradford, on November 5, with a VIP launch night taking place on Saturday.

The club was formerly called Mirage but is being extensively refurbished.

The initiative to give taxi refunds has been welcomed by West Yorkshire Police.

A spokesman said: "Anything that discourages drinking and driving would be something the police would look favourably at."

Mr Wilson first became involved in the club scene when he ran the renowned Tolerance and Universe nights with Dean Cavanagh of Glamorous Hooligan.

Most recently he has been a consultant for the Juice club in Bradford.

The Milk Bar, which Mr Wilson's Development Corporation company, is running in partnership with Mirage boss Chris Edwards, will have a capacity of 750, making it one of Bradford's largest nightclubs.

It will feature appearances by big name guest DJs including Tom Wainwright and Jeremy Healy.
