City of Bradford members won nine gold, six silver and nine bronze medals when the club hosted their annual Graded Meet, with 13 visiting clubs from North of England and Scotland competing at this ever-popular event.

The fast-swimming Shipley Pool produced a high level of personal best times, home club members making a clean sweep of the gold medals in the boys 15 and over age group, all won in best times.

Stephen Elliot, 16, produced a stylish swim to take the 100 metres breaststroke in 1min 18.47sec with team-mate Neil Farmer in second place.

Farmer won the 100m backstroke lowering his best time by 1.5sec to 1min 8.57sec, with fellow Bradford swimmer Liam Gilhooly in second place.

The other two strokes went to Paul Wilkins (100m freestyle) repeating his success of two weeks ago at Hull in the same event and James Halliday in a time of 1min 9.65sec to secure the 100 metre fly.

Not to be outdone by the boys, in the same age group Jenny Oliver, 15, won the 100 metre fly by almost 2.5 seconds in 1min 13.91sec,

Jenny also added silver in the 100m backstroke, Jane Shaw taking the 100m freestyle in 1min 5.73sec to secure Bradford's sixth gold out of the eight available in the top age group.

Moving up an age group, 14-year-old Jennifer Soames repeated her success of last year in the ten years butterfly to take this year's 11/12 years 100m backstroke for Bradford's first gold of the meet in a PB of 1min 24.71sec, partner Katie Ford, 11, also setting a best time to win the 11/12 years 100m butterfly.

City's other gold medal-winner was 13-year-old Jemma Miller in the 13/14 year 100m freestyle, also recording a life-time best. Jemma also secured bronze for the 100m backstroke.

Tomorrow night there is the last of the Grattan Rising Stars meets this year for the City's young developing seven to 11-year-old swimmers at Shipley Pool.

All the younger swimmers who took part in the Graded Meet hope to build on that experience.

City of Bradford members took two gold medals, ten silvers and five bronzes, all in personal best times, in the ASA National Masters Championships at Ponds Forge, Sheffield.

Christopher Brown, 46, won gold in the 45-49yrs 100m backstroke, silver in the 50m backstroke, bronze in the 100m butterfly and bronze as a member of the 160-199yrs mixed freestyle team.

Tracey Gordon, 36, also became national champion in the 35-39yrs, 400m individual medley achieved silver in the 200IM and bronze in the 200m breastroke. She was also a member of the bronze-medal winning mixed freestyle team, together with Julie Beaumont, 40, and Mick Taylor, 40.

Bill Moor, 62, the reigning 50m, 100m and 200m breastroke champion at both long and short course - had to be satisfied with silver medals in all three events when arch-rival Tommy Walker (City of Chester) returned to competition in a blaze of glory after serious injury. Bill also won a bronze medal in the 200m.

Other City of Bradford medal-winners were: Norman Greenfield, 67, silver 65-69yrs 200m breastroke, 200m butterfly, 100m butterfly, 100m breastroke; Joan Jessop, 57, silver in the 55-59yrs 400m freestyle; and Geoff Morrison, 52, bronze in 50-54yrs 100m backstroke.
